Demographic Change

Demographic change will have great consequences for the economic performance of Germany and Europe. A shrinking and aging labour force, as is expected in the next 20 years, is a historically new phenomenon across Europe and demands radical rethinking on the part of politics, science and companies. Together with its member companies, econsense is discussing the challenges of demographic change for the economy to devise possible joint solutions.

  • Using Potential – Jointly tackling Demographic Change in Europe

Within the context of the campaign Enterprise 2020 of our European partner network CSR Europe, econsense is becoming involved in a community project titled "Using Potential: Jointly Tackling Demographic Change in Europe". Together with the companies BASF, Evonik, SAP, Vodafone, Hitachi and randstad, econsense is examining how existing potential in both society and the labour market can be better exploited and how the various stakeholders can work together more effectively.

  • Project "Work&Age: Industries and Professions Undergoing Change"

The project "Work&Age: Industries and Professions Undergoing Change" is being conducted primarily by the University of Rostock in cooperation with the Institute for the Labour Market and Professional Research (IAB: Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung) in Nuremberg and econsense. The goals of the project are twofold. First, the project aims to analyse data on age structure and aging in various professions, industries and regions and identify possible bottlenecks in the availability of the labour force.

  • Demographic Risk Map

To counter demographic change with all its risks and to seize possible opportunities, companies need information that is tailored to their specific goals, is scientifically reliable and easily accessible. The online tool Demographic Risk Map provides precisely this information. It was developed to help companies integrate the impacts of demographic change into their strategic planning. The Demographic Risk Map analyses the influence of demographic change in 264 European regions on the basis of select location factors.

  • Demographic Risk Atlas

The Demographic Risk Atlas depicts the changes in the aging and shrinking of the population in the regions and countries of the European Union. It offers a comparative overview of demographic change in the European Union in the period from 1990 to 2030 and highlights the similarities occurring in some areas and the dissimilarities occurring in other areas, especially at the regional level.
